Have you ever bought something where it wasn’t even close to what you expected, even to the point of boredom and disappointment? Didn’t that leave you with a sour taste in your mouth, thinking, “I could’ve got a better deal than that.” That’s what the $2.99 special with Wendy’s is all about. For $2.99 at other fast-food restaurants you get the dwarf-kid’s meal portions of your traditional burger, fries and a drink leaving you wondering, “Did I just eat something, or was that cotton candy?”
C’mon all you fast food slicksters out there rippin’ people off, you’re better than that.Like the commercial says, “Expect more from a value meal.”
As believers we know Ephesians 2:8-10 explains the fact that no man can be saved through works, which is what makes Christianity unique to all the other religions of the world; it’s not about us, it’s about Him. We must first, take action in believing on Jesus Christ by faith, before we can be saved. The Holy Spirit can woo us all day long, but if we don’t take action in a step of faith before our last breath, we die in the unpardonable sin towards God.
When I think about what Christ did for me and continues doing, I feel as about as worthy as Marvin the space Martian receiving the Nobel Peace Prize for one of his voyages into space with Bugs Bunny.
He paid the ransom for me according to John 3:16. He paid a debt he did not owe, I owed a debt I could not pay. Therefore, since I have taken my step of faith 11 years ago, I must be committed to Matthew 5:16 , staying obedient and faithful to the end. Therefore, because he hung on a tree for me, I must give him what he paid for. For 27 years, the LORD got an old raggedy Ford Pinto’s service out of me with an “As is” warranty attached.
Now I’m doing my part to make sure he is getting what he paid for in a 2010 Bentley Arnage with a lifetime warranty, that stops often for an infilling of the Holy Spirit, with a beautiful exterior, gleaming and sculpted from the heat of the Eternal One. The Interior has been built to last with real and genuine parts, because it was put together by the Master Automaker. I refuse to barely make it into Heaven by the skin of my teeth, ending up in the 777,000th row in God’s Throne Room–I want to be in the front row with the great saints of the LORD. They gave back to the LORD what he paid for, they didn’t squander the majority of their opportunities to be victorious in Christ.
We are never saved by our works, but we are saved unto good works, according to James 2:14-19. Are you giving Jesus what he paid for on Calvary? We obviously know that no amount of good works would ever compare to the price God paid on the cross, but are you allowing him to conform you to his image? If not, then what are you willing to do to allow him to change you into his image through obedience, faith and disciplined good works? As you have read above in James, it is crucial that we show our good fruits as evidence that we are believers.
